Making a Difference Together – Fallen Angels
Any animal that is forgotten, abandoned (abused), lost, lonely, emaciated and neglected (FALLEN) is considered to be a Fallen Angel & therefore part of the focus area of this organisation.
Through animal therapy they aim to assist in healing the broken souls of any “FALLEN Angels” they are financially able to assist.
Fallen Angels Pet Rescue was founded in February 2014 by three devoted people; already active within the animal rescue and rehabilitation circuits.
We are situated in Melkbosstrand and we work hard to make sure that all the animals in our care get the love, attention and adoration that they deserve. We have many volunteers that help, which we are all too grateful for. Our aim to make sure that the animals in our care get homes that will give them the comfort that they deserve. It’s been a long and hard journey, but one that is worth it every day.
The ‘FALLEN’ in Fallen Angels Pet Rescue stands for Forgotten, Abandoned (Abused), Lost, Lonely, Emaciated and Neglected. Any animal that falls under these categories is considered a ‘Fallen Angel’ and thus falls within the area of importance for this organization.
Shop Playpens believes in giving back to the community and helping animals. We help make it easier to donate to various charities. In addition, we provide natural, wholesome pet food and support animal welfare organisations and charities.
The Impact of Poor Nutrition on Dogs in Impoverished Communities
Dogs in impoverished communities often suffer from poor nutrition. That affects their overall well-being. In addition, they face challenges such as inadequate food access, lack of nutrition awareness, and financial constraints.
The Importance of Proper Nutrition:
Proper nutrition is essential for a dog’s health. A balanced diet supports growth, development, and body functions. It also aids the immune system and digestion and promotes healthy skin and coat. Conversely, insufficient nutrition makes dogs vulnerable to health issues.
Effects of Poor Nutrition on Dogs:
- Weak Immune System: Malnourished dogs have weak immune systems. They are prone to infections, diseases, and chronic health issues.
- Growth and Development Issues: Puppies need proper nutrients for growth and development. Poor nutrition leads to stunted growth and future health problems.
- Poor Skin and Coat Health: Poor nutrition affects a dog’s skin and coat. It causes dull fur, skin irritations, and increased shedding.
- Dental Problems: Inadequate nutrients contribute to dental issues like gum disease and tooth decay.
- Behavioural Issues: Malnourished dogs may have behavioural problems, such as lethargy, aggression, or anxiety.
Addressing the Issue:
Improving dog nutrition in impoverished communities needs a multifaceted approach:
- Education and Awareness: Inform pet owners about proper nutrition and balanced diets.
- Community Outreach Programs: Animal welfare organisations can collaborate with communities to provide resources, pet food, veterinary services, and educational materials.
- Sterilisation and Population Control: Controlling the dog population improves nutrition and overall health.
Our Support and Contributions:
Animals need our help. Many suffer in silence. Animal charities provide hope. They rescue, heal, and protect. Your donation makes a difference. Save a life today.
Donate to an animal charity. Show your love for animals. Be their hero. Make the world a better place. Donate now. That can be the first line after the heading of every charity.
Listed Charities
Why aren’t all dog charities listed here as possible recipients?
Vondi’s pet food comes frozen, and for this reason needs to be transported in quantities large enough that the packets keep each other cool in transit, which is why we only deliver it to the public in polystyrene containers of 40 packets at a time.
For this reason, we can only offer the special discount to charities within reasonable driving distance from the Sea Point warehouse in Cape Town, or near one of our participating distributors in Johannesburg or Durban so that we can deliver it, or they may choose to collect it.
Also, the charity would need to either have enough freezing space to store such a volume of frozen food, or have enough dogs to feed that the food was used within 3 days of receipt.
Food Delivery
When will the food be delivered?
As our frozen dog food is best transported in bulk to help it keep frozen, we can only deliver it when close to 40 packets have been accumulated to donate to any given charity. Should a participating charity wish to receive the food in other amounts, they are welcome to arrange collection from the Sea Point warehouse in Cape Town, or from our participating distributors in KZN or Gauteng.
Cat Charity
Why aren’t there any cat charities or cat food donation options?
We all know cats can be fussy eaters. No matter how healthy a new food might be, or how delicious we think they might find it, they have weaker stomachs than dogs and are therefore naturally predisposed to turning their noses up at anything unfamiliar.
Also unlike dogs, cats often opt to go on hunger strike when faced with new food, and they can suffer liver damage if they go too long between meals, so you can’t simply try to wait it out until they cave in and try the new food.
While you may choose to persist with your own cat in a stable home, cats passing through foster or charity homes might have been fed one type of food before rescue, then another while in care, and then still another once rehomed.
While we are open to the idea of a special offer on cat food, we’d need a very patient partner charity to wean their cats onto it.
Your Charity
I already applied to have my charity featured and it’s not listed here. Why?
Due to volumes we can only add a few charities each month. Please be patient.
Delivery Distance Issue
What if my charity isn’t within reasonable delivery distance of the warehouse in Sea Point or a major KZN or Gauteng distributor?
If you’re prepared to pay for delivery of the free food, we can help you arrange this with our couriers. This would still work out cheaper than purchasing food. Please note that the food can only be transported in multiples of 40 packets (20kg) or else it won’t stay frozen in transit.
